Projects

The following is a list of initiatives that the Woodbridge Neighborhood Development Corporation has undertaken to better serve our community.

  • NW Triangle Infill Housing

The Northwest Triangle Development project is the culmination of 50 years of community-based efforts to create and maintain a true urban neighborhood amongst the constantly changing forces acting to the contrary.  The Northwest Triangle redevelopment is a multi-phased, zero displacement, mixed-income, urban infill project.

  • Development Plan

Coming soon!  Final plans expected to be released in March 08'.  The project will be a comprehensive plan for the future of the built environment in Woodbridge, consisting of six layers that are both inclusive and inviting to as wide a variety of neighborhood residents as possible.  Founded on the ideal of quality over quantity, the focus is on the art of "making" community.

  • Quilted Space

The Quilted Space house is a collaborative project of the Woodbridge Neighborhood Development Corporation (WNDC), Architectural Salvage Warehouse of Detroit (ASWD) and the University of Detroit-Mercy (UDM) School of Architecture.  The project aims to explore both the economic and physical feasibility of the construction of affordable housing using reclaimed building materials.  Through the reuse of materials, otherwise destined for a landfill and the reduction in natural resources consumed to create new materials, an obvious environmental impact is present.  Deeper, it will be explored weather the use of reclaimed materials offers any subsidy towards keeping the home affordable or increasing the material quality at the same cost level.
  • 5001 Grand River Ave.

The Woodbridge Neighborhood Development Corporation recently purchased a building at 5001 Grand River Avenue.  The building is located in the heart of the neighborhood's blossoming arts community and presents the opportunity to function as a major regional gateway into the Woodbridge neighborhood and, consequently, the downtown area.  The WNDC proposes to renovate this building in such a way that it will be used to facilitate economic development, by allowing the WNDC to provide financial assistance to at least five for-profit micro enterprises.
  • Facade Improvement Program

In 2005, the Woodbridge Neighborhood Development Corporation launched its first commercial facade improvement program.  The $100,000 grant aimed towards beautifying/improving the exteriors of buildings situated along the emerging Woodbridge Cultural Corridor.  The Woodbridge Neighborhood Development Corporation has since continued its efforts of improving the overall physicality and aestetic appeal of the neighborhood.

  • Home Repair Program

  • Developer Assistance

In our efforts to return Woodbridge to a truely sustainable and vibrant neighborhood, the WNDC has made a committment to assist small Detroit-based developers and homesteaders in identifying and executing logical housing development projects.
